Churches Count on Nature (5th-13th June)

During the week a small enthusiastic group of people surveyed Reepham Churchyard to see just how many species of wildlife call it home or use it to find food.

Amazingly, a total of 143 species were recorded: 93 species of plant; 28 species of insect; 12 of birds and 10 others including Smooth Newt, Leopard Slug, woodlice and other creepy crawlies. The churchyard survey is one of the things that counts towards the Eco Church awards, in the Land section, so is a good place to start and it is hoped that it will be possible to increase the diversity of wildlife even further,
monitored by an annual wildlife count. An illustrated record of the findings to date is available from richmond.42rr@btinternet.com
