Marble Ledgers Uncovered

Three Black Marble Ledgers (memorial stones) Uncovered

In October, after the Church pews on the north aisle had been removed, we were delighted to uncover, in excellent condition, three more black marble ledgers (memorial stones) placed in the floor. They date from the 18th c. as do the existing ledgers in that part of St Mary’s. One ledger (not pictured) is in memory of the Relict (widow) of an apothecary from North Walsham.

Repair and restoration of the stonework on the tower of St Mary’s is progressing well and on time.

The design is also progressing well for marking out our best estimate of the likely outline of All Saints Church, informed by the geophysical survey and evidence from the archaeological dig.
