Rev’d Helens Letter (January 2024)

The word I am concentrating on this year is love. It’s such a short word and in English we only have one word. We say I love pizza and I love you meaning completely different things. Love is so much bigger then our expression of this short word. I am writing this as I prepare for Advent…far in advance of when it will be read. What do I think the world needs more of definitely love. One of my favourite Christmas films is ‘Love actually’…it’s funny, it makes you cry, it’s all about love its highs and lows and reminds us that love is all around. Starting and finishing in an airport. That’s how January and 1st Feb will be for me. The arrival will be greeted with down-under relatives and when back in the UK I will be welcomed back with the great National Express before a heart felt home-coming. Love will be at the top of my mind.

The main reason will be that the world needs Love more than ever. Perhaps love could be amplified all over the world. Its the largest thread in all world religions and those of no religion…love really is all around. It is the glue that binds us to each other. It is the answer when the world is losing the plot. As well as loving people we also must love our planet we have to be the voice and the action. Love is ours to give away. The word love is much more rich deep broad and wider than we may sometimes allow it to be.

‘We have all known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community.’ Dorothy Day

Maybe LOVE could be partial understood as Listening to Others Voices Everywhere or Living Out Virtuous Energy. Or think of your own words for LOVE….I will be listening for Love as I go walk about in Australia following the pattern of indigenous wanders, wending my way through experiences not yet known, letting Love be my guide. Blessings of love for Jan/Feb and don’t be afraid to draw closer to the Source of Love always a breath away from us all. Love Love Love Helen

Blessings
