Words of Light and Hope from Tony Hawes

Words of Light and Hope from Tony Hawes.

Sea Sunday.

Jesus awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Mark 4.39.

O Saviour, whose almighty word

the winds and waves submissive heard,

who walkedst on the foaming deep,

and calm, amid its rage, didst sleep:

O hear us when we cry to thee

for those in peril on the sea.

William Whiting.

Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the Universe

By your word the evening comes

By your power the day dawns

You are the Lord of the tides and seasons

You have set the stars in the sky

You have placed a limit on the sea

In your love you created all things

By your love all creation is sustained

Blessed are you, Lord God, King of the Universe.

God of the deep

Pour your eternity into our hearts

For we hunger and thirst for you

We seek to know that we live in you

And that you make your home with us

Drive from us doubt and darkness

Dispel all our despair and distress

That in your light we may rejoice

Free us from fear and fretfulness

Expel our anxiety and anxiousness

That in your peace we may find rest

Amid the storm and the tempest

When the elements rage and roar

Give us the faith to stand firm

To be still in your power and love.

David Adam, Island of Light.

Dear God, be good to me.

The sea is so wide and my boat is so small.

Breton fisherman’s prayer.

I will say unto the Lord, Thou art my hope, and my stronghold: my God, in him will I trust.

Psalm 91.2
