Words of Light and Hope from Sue Page

“A Christian is one who points at Christ and says, ‘I can’t prove a thing, but there’s something about his eyes and his voice. There’s something about the way he carries his head, his hands, the way he carries his cross-the way he carries me Frederick Buechner. ‘”

A Thought

Pray as you can, pray as you are; pray as you speak.

Don’t try to imitate others or be intimidated into praying like someone else. It is YOU God wants to meet when you pray.

Watch now, dear Lord

With those who wake or watch or weep tonight,

And give your angels charge over those who sleep.

Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ,

And your weary ones,

Bless your dying ones, soothe your suffering ones,

Pity your afflicted ones, shield your joyous ones,

And all for Your Love’s sake Amen

St Augustine from Iona Abbey Worship book.

Saint Teresa of Calcutta wrote, “Not all of us can do great things, but we can all of us do little things with great love!”, and citied Jesus commanding the giver of “even a cup of cold water”![ Matt 10 42]

More recently the activist Greta Thunberg has underlined the fact that ‘No one is too small to make a difference!”. A smile, a phone call, a food bank donation etc! More thoughtful shopping choices.

Prayer

Loving God, open our hearts to Your Love,

Open our ways to Your will,

Open our actions to Your compassion, open our pain to your peace, and in doing so

Open our world to Your Hope. Amen [BRF]

Patient God,

We say that we are waiting for you,

When the truth is more often You are waiting for us.

You wait for us to open our ears to Your voice;

You wait for us to open our eyes to Your presence:

You wait for us to open our hearts to Your love:

You wait for us to open our minds to Your truth.

As we wait for You this day,

May we encounter You

Waiting for us. Amen

A Prayer for Advent

Sharpen our insight in this season of Waiting that, inspired by the patient watchfulness of Anna in the temple, we may be alert to your Coming among us and recognise You with Joy! Amen
