Words of Light and Hope from Rev. Canon Peter Halls

When I was in my parishes and taking assembly for various schools I thought it would be helpful for the children to learn a prayer they could perhaps remember and use. Many knew the Lord’s prayer but I am not sure today how many children (or adults) do.

As a simple way to begin each day this is the prayer from the Alternative Service Book (slightly modifying the old Prayer Book version)

Almighty God

We thank you that you have brought us safely

to the beginning of this day.

Keep us from falling into sin

or running into danger.

Order us in all our doings

and guide us to do always what is right in your eyes

Through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

What a way to place ourselves in the hand of God. To still be alive, then to seek to do God’s will in the rest of the time allotted to us.
