Thy Kingdom Come: “God With Us”
We are in the brief season of Thy Kingdom Come, ten days between Ascension Day (14 th May) and Pentecost (24 th May) when churches worldwide join together to for five people we know that they may come to know Jesus better. This parallels the 10 days then disciples waited after Jesus ascended to heaven, and they knew not what would come next for them. Then at Pentecost the Holy Spirit filled them and enabled them to spread the Word to ‘the ends of the earth’.
The Novena for this year is written by our new Archbishop, Sarah Mullally (TKC Novena 2026 DIGITAL_0.pdf). It explores a different Bible story each day illustrating “God’s transformative presence, power and love at work in the lives of people and places; the God who is with us in the everyday – in the joys and sorrows of life (and everything in between) and the One who, through His spirit, longs to reveal Himself to those who do not yet know Him.”
Archbishop Sarah writes:
“Prayer is not simply about asking God to change the world….it’s as much about asking God to change us. Prayer shapes the pray-er. God wants to transform us into people who make the changes we want to see in the world. With God’s help, we hold the possibility of being the answer to our own prayer.
It’s as St. Teresa of Avila wrote:
‘Christ has no body but yours, No hands, no feet on earth but yours, Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world, Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good, Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.’
She says “We can be the hands of Christ to those who need them.”
