Our Current Project

St Mary’s is used for worship on a regular basis. Its medieval tower urgently needs repair. St Michael’s was refurbished extensively in 2011. It is still used for worship but provides modern facilities and a welcoming bright, airy space for a wide range of community events.  All Saints was burnt down in the Great Fire of Reepham on 18th April 1543 and only a ruined fragment remains.

What the Project will do:

The Three Churches Project will enable repairs to the tower of St Mary’s to be undertaken; work started in August 2016 with the erection of scaffolding. The floor in the north aisle suffers from damp and rot and necessitated the removal of pews from the north aisle. Once the floor is renovated the north aisle will provide much needed circulation space, temporary seating and the internal rearrangement will enable a Children’s Area to be properly located. The ruins of All Saints are being investigated so as to discover the outline of the former church and for our heritage to be explored and enjoyed by visitors in the form of a heritage trail.

A major part of the cost of this Project is being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. In 2015 HLF provided a first grant of £18,000 to carry out investigative work and obtain the necessary consents and in 2016 it awarded a grant of £216,000 to enable the Project to be completed. The balance of the cost of the Project is provided by the generosity of the wider community of Reepham through a Gift Day and local fundraising events.
